Our intervention
A 3-bedroom property in a 1960s apartment building located in Alvalade, Lisbon, has come to us in its original condition (with no previous renovations, except for the external wooden frames, which had already been replaced with aluminium ones). It was previously confirmed that in the common areas of the building, the water, gas and electricity supply columns had been replaced about 10 years ago. The sparse finishes, typical of the basic construction, with no particularities to restore, allowed us to intervene without conditions to create the environment proposed by the owner – that is, to recover the spirit of the traditional buildings of this neighbourhood.
Specifically, the work consisted of renovating the kitchen and sanitary facilities, including painting and new coverings; renewing the water, electricity, gas and sanitation supply networks; replacing the frames with a PVC system, promoting energy efficiency, but maintaining the original colour and metric; sanding and varnishing the wooden floor; general painting.
All the walls were plastered in a smooth white finish, and the skirting boards were restored and painted.
The doors were enamelled during the construction, and the hardware was the only element reused.
We combined the Living Room, Service Room and its bathroom, thus creating a Suite space with a dedicated Closet space.
We joined two existing bedrooms on the Main Elevation, opening a passageway between them in the dividing wall, which allowed us to gain space and benefit from the natural light that predominates there.
In the kitchen, a hydraulic mosaic floor was installed, with a floral pattern and strong tones, aiming to recover the spirit of other times. The kitchen furniture in matte white laminate contrasts with the wooden top.
The vintage electrical equipment (power sockets, coaxial and RJ45, switches and mirrors) and the installed Neoclassical bidet and toilets, ensured the unique personality of this apartment.
